Linn Basik Review
Linn Basik LVV - Retrotech Audio - Vintage Audio. Linn Basik LV-V 9 Inch Tonearm. User manual and a template from the excellent vinylengine.com website. Linn AKITO tonearm for Linn Sondek LP12 Turntable or for any,Price: RM1850.00,End time 4/17/2015 3:08 AM MYT. Product Details; Review (0); Q&A. If you are still using the old Linn LVV, LVX, or LVX Plus (Basik PLus) pick-up arm, or any other non-Linn tonearm you don't know what your Sondek LP12 turntable is.
If you are in the market for a serious upgrade in the sound of your analog rig, I seriously recommend the Linn Sondek LP12 for anybody who really loves their vinyl. I've been an audiophile for over 20 years now and I can safely say you should spend the most on your source, be it a CD player or Turntable, they are 80% of the sound. Always get the best source possible. I state this without reservation.
I could easily say 'Garbage In', 'Garbage Out' and leave it at that. However, a better source will improve allaspects of your music from your high frequencies to pace, rhythm and timing (PRAT) to bass tautness and slam. Contrary to 70's ideology, a better source will actually increase the sense of realism and slammore so than a bigger amp. Vinyl is totally a different format, it’s like the newspaper. Sure, I could read it online, but there is something about holding the paper, it’s the smell and the feel of it in your hands that make the experience something else.
It’s the ritual of removing the vinyl from it’s sleeve, placing it on the turntable and hearing the initial static that makes the experience for me. It almost makes the music more important, something to be paid attention and appreciated in a different way. We’ll always have iPods and car stereos for casual music consumption, but I like to think of having a hi-fi system as a totally different activity. Enter the Linn Sondek LP12, which apparently sounds incredible connected to the right gear and I can guarantee that you’ve never heard analog soundlike this before and — as you can see from the photos above — is absolutely gorgeous — with the walnut finish ( light brown colour) solid wood plinth. This is not like what you normally see sold by our friend Loy Hi Fi (i.e. Taken from Malaysian or Singaporean owner) as this turntable was especially brought in from England — 1 single British owner from new. Just look at the pictures you can already know its true condition— just beautiful!
This stunning unique turntable is in very good condition. It comes complete with Linn LVV tonearm and a brand new Audio Technica (AT91) MM Moving Magnet cartridge — suits Linn. Classic MM (moving magnet) design, fitted as standard or as first choice to many, mid to high end turntables over the years. The Audio Technica AT91 is a robust cartridge suitable for almost any turntable, thanks to its generic headshell mounting. With an even frequency response, it suits most music genres and is also ideal as an affordable back-up cartridge for working DJs.
Bearings and geometry are all spot-on. It has overhang, lateral angle and height adjustment. It comes with its 3 mounting bolts and Linn phono cable ending in high quality Gold-plated phono RCA plugs. No marks or scratches anywhere. The lightweight headshell is also in excellent condition.
The detachable headshell allows for easy swapping of the head shell for cartridge replacement or A/B comparisons. The Linn Basik LVV tonearm is manufactured in Japan to Linn's specification, with only final quality control taking place in Linn Products' Glasgow, Scotland, headquarters. I have taken a lot of photos so you can see what EXCELLENT CONDITION it is in!
About the LP12 Introduced in 1972, the Sondek LP12 was Linn’s first product and helped demonstrate that the most important element in any quality music system is the source of the music itself. Launched at a time when amplifiers and loudspeakers were seen as being most critical to the performance of any system, the Sondek LP12 showed that extracting more information from the record itself was the most critical challenge. Quite simply, information lost at the source is lost forever. Since its introduction over 30 years ago the Sondek LP12 has been the turntable by which all others are judged and each component has been continuously improved to extract even more information from a vinyl record. At the heart of the Sondek LP12 is Linn’s patented low-noise, single-point bearing. This advanced yet simple bearing design ensures the smooth motion of the turntable and eliminates noise to ensure that all you hear is the music. The high mass, perfectly balanced, belt-driven platter maintains speed stability, while the solid wood plinth, suspended sub-chassis and stable arm platform combine to provide freedom from vibration and acoustic feedback.
The combination of these precision-engineered components creates a turntable with an unequalled ability to provide pitch accurate, faithful reproduction of your cherished vinyl collection. The serial number is in the range 066xxx which corresponds to a manufacturing date of around 1982 / 1983. One owner from new and hence in very good condition. You will see from the photographs that the deck appears to be entirely original and is in exceptional condition for its age. The clear lid (dust cover) appears to look like new, without cracks, scratches or obvious damage that I can see. If you are in the market for a serious upgrade in the sound of your analog rig, I seriously recommend the Linn Sondek LP12 for anybody who really loves their vinyl.
Linn Basik Lv V Tonearm Manual Transfer Machine
This is a lovely unspoiled deck in original specification. It is ideal for the person wishing to start a serious hifi system at moderate cost, in which case the deck can be gradually upgraded should you desire. Alternatively, this Sondek would be of particular interest to the collector interested in retro hifi. 'In 1972, Ivor Tiefenbrun, the founder of Linn Products, first demonstrated the Sondek LP12 turntable; and, if you excuse the pun, it started a revolution. Prior to the Sondek LP12, conventional thinking was that the loudspeakers were the most important element of a hi-fi system.
Ivor and the Sondek LP12 turned this completely around and proved that it was the other end of the hi-fi chain, the turntable, that was most significant. After all, loudspeakers can only reproduce the signal that is fed to them. So if the power amplifier and pre-amplifier degrade the signal and lose some of the audio information, and the turntable does so too, then not even the best loudspeakers in the world can bring that music back. On the other hand, if the turntable extracts the maximum information from a record that it can, if a little of that audio signal is lost further along the path then even average loudspeakers can still produce excellent results. Extracting the maximum information from a record is what the Sondek LP12 has been doing for more than thirty-five years, making it the longest-lived hi-fi product still in production anywhere in the world, and the benchmark by which all other turntables are judged.
Taken from the introduction to the Linn Sondek LP12 User Manual, this concisely explains the revolution in thinking which transformed the British HiFi industry in the 1970's. The conventional mantra that the loudspeaker was the key component in the chain was turned on its head in favour of the signal source, be it a Turntable or CD Player, and extensive listening tests eventually confirmed the unarguable logic of 'rubbish in - rubbish out'.
